Kings Road Cafe, with a Side of the Farmer's Market, Please
Written by Portia White

Life was more lemons than oranges when I lived in Los Angeles around 2009. I didn’t like where I lived, nor where I worked. I had to find some sweetness in life to change my mindset. Placing myself in a better, more positive environment, was the first step. So every morning around 7:30, I drove my little scooter, no it wasn’t a Vespa, to my favorite place in LA, The Farmers Market on 3rd and Fairfax. You could park there for free until 9 am. I would grab a Columbian coffee from Bob’s Donuts, they have the BEST DONUTS by the way, drink my coffee while reading a book and soaking up that multi cultural vibe that the Farmer’s Market is known for. It’s a multi cultural mecca due to the variety of shops and a worldly feel that it gives you. Even though Bob’s Donuts’ Columbian coffee was strong and quite tasty, I was looking for something else. I was itching for something stronger, bolder, more from my coffee.

That’s when I discovered Kings Road Cafe, the neighborhood cafe in West Hollywood, CA. They serve the best cup of coffee that I’ve ever tasted. It’s strong, full bodied, and you will only need one cup. What I love, and whenever I travel to a new place I’m always looking for, is that they create a fresh cup of coffee for every customer. It’s called SINGLE ORIGIN CUPPING. This cafe has a line leading out the door every morning. Oh, the muffins are to die for!

For years, I would drive by this spot and wonder what was so great about this place that it was always. So, I decided to stop and check it out. It only took one stop, and from that point on, I made Kings Road Cafe my go to spot. My regular to go order was always a cup of coffee with an oh-so-moist blueberry muffin. From then on, my mornings changed. Every morning for the next several months, I drove to Kings Road, grabbed a coffee, a blueberry muffin, and hauled it to The Farmer’s Market before work. It changed my life forever. Those were my oranges that I needed. That sweetness that I needed to give my life balance.

Many people go to fast food places or restaurants, and order combos, to get their fix, but not me. My combo was one Kings Road coffee, one blueberry muffin, and a side of The Farmer’s Market before 9 am. It was and still is a combo that is highly recommend to add a little jolt, a slice of peace, and touch of comfort to kick start your day.
